Preventing Users from Shutting Down
A system administrator can prevent users from using the Shut Down option,
normaly accesible through the start menu. This hiddeb feature, available on all
Windows platforms can sometimes be invaluable for system administartors who want
to limit misuse on computers placed in airport lounges, offices, libraries and
other public locations.
To disable the Shut Down option all you need to do is
follow these steps:
1. Open regedit.exe file
2. Scroll down to the
following registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre
ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
3. In the right pane, look for an existing DWORD
value called NoClose or create a new one by clicking Edit>New>Dword
Value.
4. Set the DWORD data value to 1 to disable the shutdown option and to
0 to enable it.
5. Exit the Windows registry. You might need to restart the
Windows session for the changes to be implemented.
